What is the Vial of Life
The Vial of Life is a national medical program designed to help emergency medical personnel who are attempting to provide medical care to people who are unable to speak or have difficulty communicating.
How does the Program Work?
Critical medical-related information is contained in a specially marked bottle, which will be placed in the refrigerator door of the household. The outside of the refrigerator is then marked with a recognizable symbol, which emergency medical personnel will look for and recognize. Emergency medical workers throughout Knox County will be notified that the Vial of Life program is being implemented and to look for the identifying magnet in households with medical emergencies.
Why was the Program Developed?
In a medical emergency, thinking clearly is difficult. Because of this, critical information may not be passed on to pre-hospital care providers and, in turn, the receiving ER/ED staff. Such oversights can be life threatening. The Vial of Life program was introduced to eliminate oversights and miscommunication during medical emergencies.
